getting away: my upcoming artist fellowship with Getaway House!

During the fall of last year, I was feeling burnt out and looking for a long weekend away for my husband and I to enjoy. We typically visit New York’s Finger Lakes each fall, but thought maybe we would switch it up in 2018. Guess what: we didn’t switch it up at all and went back to one of our favorite places in the USA for the 4th year in a row. Whoops.

But I digress- in my search for a different long weekend venue, I happened upon this company called Getaway House. If you haven’t heard of them, go follow them on Instagram right now and tell me you don’t want to drop everything you’re doing and go stay in the woods ASAP. Their feed is just so pretty! Those big picture windows in the cabins- SWOON. As I poked around the site and dreamed up excuses to go, I noticed this link at the wayyyy bottom that read Artist Fellowships. The application was super easy- some simple info, a project proposal, and boom, you’ve applied. So I did. And I expected to hear nothing. And low and behold, I heard something back!

After settling on some dates with a lovely contact named Julia, I am SO psyched to announce that I will be participating in the Getaway House Artist Fellowship program this time next week! I’ll be road-tripping to their Virginia outpost to stay just outside Shenandoah National Park, one of my bucket-list places to visit. I’m bringing a slew of drawing and printmaking materials down with me to play with. Those cyanotype chemicals I’ve been hanging on to for a rainy (aka sunny) day? Yeah, they’re coming too.

This post is not an ad, I am just really psyched about this opportunity and this company! If you want to see what past artist fellows have done, check out some posts from the company here. If you’re an artist yourself, I encourage you to apply!
